Riley Johnson named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare

Riley Johnson (MWC Wrestling Academy/Skutt Catholic HS/Omaha, Neb.) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on May 8, 2024.
Johnson won titles in both 16U freestyle and Greco-Roman at the NEUSAW Freestyle and Greco-Roman State Championships this past weekend in Crete, Nebraska. In Greco-Roman, Johnson, competing at 165 pounds, was dominant in his run to the top of the podium, with four technical falls while refusing to surrender a single point to his opponents.
His freestyle run at 165 pounds was nearly identical as he totaled three wins, all by technical fall, while not allowing a single point against him.
Last October, Johnson was the runner-up at 165 pounds in the 9th-10th Boys division at the 2023 Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals, held in Des Moines, Iowa. Adding to his list of career accolades, Johnson earned All-American honors at the 2023 16U National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota, where he placed sixth in freestyle at 160 pounds.
