Jordan Burroughs (Sicklerville, N.J./Pennsylvania RTC) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on September 18, 2024.

Burroughs, a 2012 Olympic champion and six-time World champion, earned a spot on his 10th Senior World Team last weekend. He will compete at 79 kg in Tirana, Albania, at the 2024 Senior World Championships in late October.

At the Senior World Team Trials in Omaha, Nebraska, Burroughs battled his way through the challenge tournament to reach the best-of-three championships series. In the challenge tournament semifinals, he scored a 7-4 victory over Alex Dieringer. The match was tied at the break, but Burroughs opened up his offense in the second period to advance to the finals.

In the championship finals series, Burroughs faced a familiar opponent in 2023 Senior World Team member Chance Marsteller. It was the third time these two battled in the finals of a World Team qualifier. Burroughs and Marsteller also wrestled in Final X twice, with Burroughs making the World Team in 2022 and Marsteller earning the spot in 2023.

Burroughs swept the two-match series at 79 kg to claim the World Team spot. On Sunday morning, Burroughs shut out Marsteller in the first match, 3-0. Burroughs scored a first-period takedown and added a second period shot clock point for the win.

He sealed the series win with a 6-3 victory in the second match. The key exchange late in the second period had Burroughs score four points on a double leg shot, with Marsteller getting a two-point counter exposure.

The 2024 Senior World Championships are slated to take place at the Sports Hall “Feti Borova” in Tirana, Albania, October 28-31. Burroughs will take the mat on October 30-31.
