QUERETARO, Mexico – Team USA continued a successful weekend at the U23 Pan American Championships at Auditorio General José María Arteaga in Queretaro, Mexico, earning eight gold medals in men’s freestyle, as all 10 athletes finished on the podium.
Eight wrestlers claimed gold medals on Saturday evening. Two-time age-group World Champion Luke Lilledahl earned his fourth career Pan American Championships gold, going 4-0. On his way to the finals, Lilledahl outscored his opponents 31-0 with three technical falls as his finals opponent was unable to compete.
Going undefeated in round-robin brackets was Zan Fugitt at 61 kg, John Wiley at 70 kg, Levi Haines at 79 kg and Connor Mirasola at 92 kg. Fugitt picked up two technical falls and a pin in just 43 seconds, while Wiley dominated with four technical falls. Haines went 4-0 with two pins and a technical fall, and Mirasola held a 2-0 record with a pair of 10-0 technical falls.
2024 U23 World Team members Massoma Endene at 97 kg and Lucas Stoddard at 125 kg secured gold on Saturday. Endene held a 3-0 record with a technical fall, a pin in the semifinals, and a decision in the championship match. CJ Composto was also 4-0 at 65 kg, with three technical falls and a 14-6 decision in the finals.
Two wrestlers finished with bronze medals on Saturday, Hunter Garvin at 74 kg and Jaxon Smith at 86 kg. Garvin fell in a close quarterfinal match, bouncing back with a 10-0 technical fall in the repechage round. Smith secured bronze with three pins, all in the first period.
