LAS VEGAS, Nev. – Round one of the best-of-three championship series for Group B at the Senior Greco-Roman World Team Trials concluded on Saturday morning at the 2025 CLAW U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Payton Jacobson, a 2024 Olympian and three-time age-group World Team member, secured a 1-0 series lead with a win over Spencer Woods. Jacobson was hit for passivity early in the first period, giving Woods a 1-0 lead. Unable to generate any offense in par terre, the pair were called back to neutral. In the second, Jacobson made it an even score after Woods was put down. Jacobson tallied four points with two turns, widening the gap and ultimately winning 5-1.
At 97 kg, Michial Foy leads the championship series over 2024 Olympian Josef Rau. Foy led 1-0 early after a passivity call against Rau. He added a point on a step-out, then took Rau down on the edge to improve to 4-0. One more takedown made it a 6-0 match, and Foy wrestled hard on his feet for the win.
In a rivalry series at 130 kg, Cohlton Schultz pinned Adam Coon 55 seconds into the match. Schultz struck first off the whistle, going behind Coon for the takedown. Schultz rolled through Coon for two more, getting him to his back and winning round one by fall.
At 82 kg, round one of the best-of-three series went to Beka Melelashvili. His opponent, Senior National Team member Jesse Porter was hit with a passivity call, putting Melelashvili up by one. While in par terre, Melelashvili scored a turn, but Porter was injured in the exchange and Melelashvili won by injury default.
